Not sure what to expect? Here’s a little glimpse into a typical rehearsal of the Greater Kingston Chorus. We guarantee it’s better in person!

When you arrive around 6:15pm, our Membership person will greet you and give you a binder to use during the evening, filled with our current music.  You are welcome to sit and listen, or join us on the risers for any or all of the rehearsal.

At 6:30pm we participate in a gentle 5-10 minute physical warm-up. This is followed by about 20 minutes of vocal warmups by our Co-Directors, Andria & Sue.

From 7-9:30pm, the rest of the evening is filled with music - we review our current repertoire and work on new music.  We have a weekly chorus newsletter that lets members know what songs we’ll be reviewing each week.  We also have a member’s website that includes audio tracks for all of our music. These tracks are part specific and very helpful. Sometimes we have section practice, which is an opportunity to work in small groups with members who sing the same part and sometimes two voice parts or sections will go off together and do some dueting before the entire group re-unites.

Around 8pm, we take a short break for announcements and socializing. We take time to support and celebrate our members!

Depending on the time of year, GKC will be preparing for a variety of events. Typically we do a concert/show in December and we perform regularly at community events. In the spring, we spend time preparing for our annual competition.

GKC rehearsals are well planned and focussed.  We learn with sheet music in hand, but perform without it. We work hard, have fun and laugh a lot!
